Objectives

Take advantage of European experience (France and Denmark) to develop a Quebec-based expertise and a network of European expert contacts for group housing of gestating sows with respect to equipment, housing types, livestock management and economic aspects. This mission also aims to expand knowledge of other practices that promote the animals' welfare. This mission will have an impact on the swine sector by developing training sessions and a strategic plan to guide producers and the Fédération des producteurs de porcs du Québec as to actions to promote the setting up of profitable swine operations with group housed gestating sows that meet the standards laid down by the pork meat buyers.
