Aim / objectives:
Validate the balanced feed intake method among three categories of swine production, finisher pigs, nursery pigs and sows, so as to comply with the recommendations of the Comité de coordination des effluents d’élevage (CCEE).
  • Assess the phosphorus-retention factor used to establish phosphorus values in the liquid swine manure of piglets and finisher pigs;
  • Using a sensitivity analysis, evaluate the accuracy of the balanced feed intake method for the three herd categories, i.e. finisher pigs, nursery piglets and sows;
  • Establish sensitive or critical parameters for the balanced feed intake method;
  • Establish validation criteria to show feed balance calculation users whether the estimated nutrient excretions are valid;
  • Update the 2006 Technical Guide on balanced feed intake in swine based on the results from this project.
