CDPQ IN A FEW WORDS

The Centre de développement du porc du Québec inc. (CDPQ) is a non-profit corporation. Founded in 1992, CDPQ was created under the initiative of the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) in order to manage programs related to genetics, health, herd analysis as well as commercial pig evaluation trials.
 
Although initially created to manage MAPAQ programs related to pig production, CDPQ is today a multidisciplinary center of expertise which, through its services, its knowledge transfer activities and its involvement in several research and development projects, contributes to the dynamism of the entire Quebec pork industry. Through the various committees it manages and its multiple collaborators and business partners, CDPQ also plays a consultative or coordinating role with a large number of industry players, facilitating, among other things, the implementation of collective initiatives.

The team is composed of an average of 40 employees and the projects carried out are subject to multiple analyses from our different areas of expertise, namely:
  • Analyzing and Evaluating Data (contributes to all of our projects and services)
  • Building and Livestock Management
  • Feeding and Animal Nutrition
  • Genetics
  • Health and Biosecurity
  • Management and Economics
  • Meat Quality and Technical Services (including ultrasound or other technical measurements on live animals of different species (e.g. pork, beef, sheep, etc.))
  • Public Health
Working groups made up of experts from the swine sector are also formed on a regular basis or as needed to support the development of the various fields of activity in which CDPQ is active.

STRATEGIC PLAN 2019-2024
 
Our strategic plan was recently updated for the 2019–2024 period. The main objectives targeted during this five-year exercise were to:
 
Contextualize the reflection in the current business environment of the pork sector,
Take a fresh look at CDPQ’s mission and vision,
Reach consensus on the key points that guide the strategic plan,
Get a clearer view of priorities.
 
In addition to an update on our mission, vision and values, 3 main areas of focus have been identified:
 
Fully exercise a consultative role among stakeholders in the pork sector,
Develop expertise and offer cutting-edge services to promote innovation,
Highlight CDPQ’s neutrality and transparency.
