The purpose of the swine industry’s Research, Development, and Knowledge Transfer (RDT) Committee is to improve synergy among the various research entities for the benefit of the entire industry.
 

MANDATES

Based on the elements derived from the diagnosis on the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of our current R & D model in the Quebec pork sector and what emerged during the FORUM held on September 27, 2017, to propose:
 

• a mechanism for identifying research, development and innovation priorities in response to the needs of all segments of the pork industry
• an implementation plan for this mechanism
• identification of concrete ways to improve networking between public and private partners
• encourage the implementation of new collaborations, joint initiatives and project implementation, involving multidisciplinary teams from various organizations
• an effective formula to respond quickly to evolving priorities of the value chain, including a communication approach to direct the necessary resources
• concrete improvements to be made to the granting agencies regarding research funding measures
• recommendations for the swine sector, derived from the analysis of models applied in the mining and forestry sectors
• an action plan to improve transfer and distribution activities
• advice on major projects with benefits for the entire industry

This website features a dynamic directory that was first created in 2016–2017 and has since been updated by the CDPQ team, containing the following information:

• Information and documents generated by members of the RDT Committee
• List of issues and areas of R&D intervention identified as critical in the short and medium term to ensure the development and competitiveness of Quebec’s hog industry
• List of public research projects for the years 2018–2021
• Resources, expertise, and institutions dedicated to RDT in Quebec’s swine sector
• Financial assistance programs available for research in the swine sector

The members of the Committee for Research, Development and Knowledge Transfer for the swine industry (RDT Committee) have consulted with more than 80 experts in the swine sector with the aim of identifying research topics to be prioritized in the next few years.
 
The resulting document, which is the outcome of this collaborative effort, will be a most relevant tool for researchers to prepare projects that respond to the concerns of the sector, with potential for significant benefits to the industry.
 
In addition, program managers will be able to use this Guide as a reference for selecting projects in a context where budget envelopes are limited.
